Finally here are my top ten of famous people wearing fabulous hats. I promised you this post a long time ago, but it was a struggle to decide who is on my list and who isn't. There are so many amazing hats out there!
I realized that a hat usually doesn't come alone: Most of the people in this list haven't been seen just with one outstanding hat, but own a wonderful collection. I am close to say, either a person is a hat person or not. For a hat person the headwear is the most important accessorize and a head without a hat is naked.
One of the good things about being famous is that you have a lot of opportunity to wear glamorous headwear. An extravagant hat is a good way to bring your picture into the press. I wonder why not more famous people take advantage of this.
My list is dominated by the work of the british milliners Philip Treacy and Piers Atkinson. I wished to have a bigger variety in designers, but I just had to admit that they clearly dominate the market of the most astonishing hats. So if you ever need a perfect hat: This is where you have to knock!
I hope you enjoy my list and I'll keep watching for more astonishing hats on the heads of stars and everyone else!

The Chinese Girl: Isabella Blow (Picture by Richard Saker/Rex Features)
1: Isabella Blow
If I think about a hat person Isabella Blow is without any question the first person, popping into my head. I could make a own top ten of wonderful hats this amazing woman had. It was very difficult to choose one as the most remarkable. I think the "Chinese Garden" hat belongs on top of this list, because it's very unique and I've never seen it on another famous person. It's not just a hat, but a whole little village, Isabella is carrying on her head. It's created by Philip Treacy for Alexander McQueen's 2005 spring/summer collection. This hat is perfect for Isabella as it has a connection to her own life story: She studied Ancient Chinese Art.

The Forest Fairy: Michelle Harper (Picture by Jason Kemplin/Getty Images)
2: Michelle Harper
Her mission is to save millinery, so she's wearing a lot of hats. The fashion icon Michelle Harper from New York has a quirky and colorful style and hats suits her very well. My favorite hat from her is this headpiece from Pierce Atkinson. Michelle looks like a mystical forest creature right out of a beautiful fairy tale.

The Brave: Princess Beatrice
3: Princess Beatrice of York
You either love or hate this hat by Philip Treacy. Beatrice made a very bold statement, wearing it to the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate 2011. Once you've seen this hat you can't forget about it. In my opinion the hat was even more remarkable than Kate's wedding dress. For so much fashion courage Beatrice earns my respect and I do hope she will not be discouraged to wear extravagant hats just because of people complaining.

The Science Fiction Commander: Lady Gaga, The Fruity: Anna Dello Russo
4: Lady Gaga
She seems to have pieces from the most talented designers from all around the world and as well a love for extravagant millinery. My favourite and much beloved milliner Pierce Atkinson has created many crazy headpieces for her. I love this crazy telephone hat. It has a very futuristic shape and style but shows as well an old phone with cord. Lady Gaga looks like the commander of a retro science fiction movie.
5: Anna Dello Russo
Anna Dello Russo was the first prominent person I've seen wearing the fabulous huge cherries from Pierce Atkinson. She must love them as much as I do, because she wears them in all variations: Red, gold, with animal print and with a veil. I think Anna's aim is to entertain people with her fashion and hats are a very important part of it. Let's hope to see many more crazy hats on her head in the future!

The Extravagant: Elizabeth Taylor, The Sugar Sweet: Enie van de Meiklokjes
6: Elizabeth Taylor
Elizabeth was a very beautiful and extravagant woman, a real classical hollywood star! In her movies as in her private life, she was wearing a lot of extraordinary clothes and headwear. This eleborate headpiece she wore in 1967 might have been her most extraordinary. Maybe you even oversee her beautiful big diamond necklace, cause the headpiece is catching all the attention.
7: Enie van de Meiklokjes
This is German tv presenter Enie van de Meiklokjes with a hat from Frollein von Sofa (German as well). Enie has got a collection of Frollein von Sofa hats, all of them are colourful, playful and humorous. They look like they come directly form a dreamy land where unicorns and rainbows are seen every day. A really girly thing, just right for a sugar sweet lady like Enie! The style of her hats are very different from the other pieces on this list and this is why i think Enie earns her place in this list.

The Big Bow: Aretha Franklin, The Flower: Paloma Faith, Femme Fatale: Dita von Teese
8: Aretha Franklin
A big voice needs a big bow! This hat by Mr Song is just a perfect choice for the soul diva: It's big and daring but not over the top or girlish. It definitely stole the show at Barack Obama's inauguration 2009. The Facebook group of her hat has nearly 94 000 followers. What a remarkable number!
9: Paloma Faith
Singer Paloma Faith has a great style. Elegant and a interesting mix between fancy and retro. This big flower headpiece from Piers Aktinson looks just astonishing on her, cause Paloma herself is like a beautiful, rare flower. It seems that Piers likes her to wear his work too, cause she was modelling in his SS12 fashion show.
10: Dita von Teese
Beautiful Dita and a Philip Treacy hat: An overhelming combination! Dita's 50s Style is perfectly completed with this ladylike hat. Of course lipstick and hat are matched perfectly and her outfit has a very dramatic look, just as it should be for a femme fatale. This outfit might be over the top for most other women, but it's just wonderful for Dita!
